ALTOONA, Pa. - PennZone -- Rebecca Holland, author of Through My Good Eye: A Memoir in Verse, releases her new book, Hope for the Broken: Using Writing to Find God's Grace on February 23. Hope for the Broken is a spiritual memoir that explores Holland's journey as a disabled, woman of color who found God during the darkest moment of her life. Through God, Holland was healed and found her own happy ending as an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church. Holland helps readers find a similar sense of purpose using the art of writing to connect with God.
Hope for the Broken is a unique blend of the memoir and self-help genres. Holland tells her story of how God turned brokenness into beauty while providing readers with instructions to create their own Writer's Notebook, weekly Bible verses and prayers, writing prompts, exercises that will help the reader connect with God, and excerpts from her own spiritual journals and poems. Hope for the Broken helps readers find God's comfort and spiritual healing by writing for only fifteen minutes a day.
Holland's background as a disabled, female minister and an ethnic minority will resonate with Christian readers of a similar background as the United Methodist Church makes strides toward diversity and inclusion. Many spiritual memoirs on the market today do not feature diverse voices or provide readers with an application section. Hope for the Broken explores the intersection of gender, race, and disability through the perspective of an ordained female minister.

Rebecca was no stranger to adversity. Marked as different from an early age by her visual disability and half-Filipino heritage, she tried her best to bury herself in the pages of a book. For years, she was able to find solace in stories, until an ill-fated battle with her own personal Goliath left her with a shattered heart and broken dreams. During the darkest point in her life, a miraculous encounter with God gave her a new hope and a new purpose. Rebecca accepted the call to ministry in the United Methodist Church, and since then, her life has never been the same. God bound up the pieces of Rebecca's heart and created something beautiful. Healing doesn't always look like we expect. Journey with her as you find your own place in the biblical story and hope for your own life.
