ALLENTOWN, Pa. - PennZone -- Meals on Wheels of the Greater Lehigh Valley (MOWGLV) was awarded $15,000 by the PPL Foundation for the nonprofit's Meal Subsidy Program, which provides nutritious meals to homebound senior citizens and adults with disabilities, delivered directly to their homes.

"This investment from the PPL Foundation helps us provide the nutrition and connection our neighbors rely on every day," said Melanie Kohler, chief executive officer of Meals on Wheels of the Greater Lehigh Valley. "Our meals are more than food. They are thoughtfully prepared with guidance from a registered dietitian and hand-delivered by caring volunteers who provide a wellness check-in and community connection. We are grateful for partners who recognize the importance of this work and help us meet a growing need throughout the Greater Lehigh Valley."

Every day, MOWGLV prepares and delivers more than 800 meals to neighbors throughout Lehigh, Northampton, and portions of Carbon counties. As the number of older adults and individuals with disabilities continues to grow, so does the need for reliable access to nutritious meals and services that help people remain independent at home.

For many clients, access to nutritious meals is essential to maintaining independence at home. The Meal Subsidy Program helps remove financial barriers by ensuring eligible individuals can receive daily meals and supports homebound adults and seniors who are unable to pay the full cost of a meal. Rising food costs have increased the expense of providing these meals, making grant support more critical than ever. These funds help bridge the financial gap and allow MOWGLV to continue providing reliable nutrition and connection to those who need it most.

During fiscal year 2024–25, MOWGLV produced and delivered more than 330,000 meals to nearly 2,000 older adults and adults with disabilities throughout the Greater Lehigh Valley. Each meal is developed and approved by a registered dietitian and designed to support a variety of nutritional needs, including individuals managing chronic health conditions.

"Community partnerships are critical to sustaining programs like our Meal Subsidy Program," said Dina Kovats-Bernat, director of development and communications at Meals on Wheels of the Greater Lehigh Valley. "Support from organizations like the PPL Foundation allows us to continue providing nutritious meals and essential services to neighbors who rely on us every day."
