Keene Valley Library Announces Rare Harold Weston Art Auction

Keene Valley, NY
— Beginning June 30, collectors and art enthusiasts will have the opportunity to bid on an original painting by renowned Adirondack artist Harold Weston (1894–1972), valued at $24,000. The online auction will run through July 24.

The Keene Valley Library is proud to present the auction of From Gothics, a 1933 gouache on tinted paper generously donated to the library by the Harold Weston Foundation. The auction offers a rare opportunity to acquire a museum-quality work while directly supporting one of the Adirondacks' most cherished community institutions.

Weston, known for his expressive and deeply personal interpretations of the Adirondack landscape, created works that continue to resonate with collectors, historians, and nature enthusiasts. From Gothics captures one of the region's most iconic peaks with the emotional depth and atmospheric intensity that define his legacy.

"Although an internationally recognized artist, the Adirondack Mountains were Harold Weston's home and greatest artistic inspiration," said Nina Weston Foster, Weston's daughter and president of the Harold Weston Foundation. "We wanted to honor his enduring connection to the community through this donation to the library."

"This is more than an art auction," said Robyn Shumer, President of the Board of Trustees of the Keene Valley Library. "It's an opportunity to own a remarkable piece of Adirondack history while helping ensure the library remains a place where our community gathers to learn, connect, and thrive."

Proceeds from the auction will directly support the Keene Valley Library's programs, collections, and ongoing efforts to serve residents and visitors alike.

The library's annual summer fundraiser is themed Freedom in the Wilds, inspired by Weston's memoir, Freedom in the Wilds: An Artist in the Adirondacks (Syracuse University Press, 2008).

Collectors and community members are encouraged to follow the Keene Valley Library on social media for auction updates, behind-the-scenes content, and reminders throughout the bidding period. The online auction will run through July 24.
