TATAMY, Pa. - PennZone -- As the conversation around Type 2 diabetes shifts from simply managing the disease to the potential for remission through evidence-based lifestyle interventions, one Lehigh Valley nonprofit that has spent nearly two decades supporting healthier communities through lifestyle medicine, food access, education, and longitudinal engagement is being featured alongside other national leaders in a film series focused on changing how Type 2 diabetes is treated.

Since 2007, Kellyn has worked to change how communities approach health by connecting clinical care with access to healthy food, culinary education, lifestyle medicine, and community support. Now, that work is being highlighted through Project Remission: A Lifestyle Medicine Approach to Type 2 Diabetes, a film series from the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) and Content With Purpose.

"As physicians, we can recommend healthier foods and lifestyle changes, but those recommendations only go so far if people lack access to the resources and environments they need to make those changes," said Meagan Grega, MD, FACLM, co-founder and chief medical officer of Kellyn and Director of the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine. "Lifestyle medicine allows us to look beyond the exam room and address the everyday factors that influence health."

In Kellyn's featured films (https://contentwithpurpose.co.uk/aclm/projectremission/series_partners/kellyn-foundation/), which have received over 40,000 views combined, Grega discusses how access to nutritious food can support better health and how community-based interventions can help address the conditions that contribute to chronic disease. The film shows Kellyn's Therapeutic Lifestyle Change Program, a 12-month intervention that helps participants build sustainable healthy habits.

Kellyn puts lifestyle medicine into practice through initiatives like its "Eat Real Food" Mobile Market, which brings fresh, locally sourced produce to communities at an affordable cost. By making nutritious food more accessible, Kellyn helps create the conditions that make healthy lifestyle choices possible.

Kellyn is featured among a group of 16 national health care organizations, clinicians and community partners demonstrating how lifestyle medicine can move beyond the exam room and into the communities where people live, work and make decisions about their health. The film highlights Kellyn's nearly two decades of work translating the principles of lifestyle medicine into community-based programs throughout the Lehigh Valley.
