PITTSBURGH ~ Giant Eagle, Inc. is beginning its new fiscal year with excitement and gratitude for the more than 22 years of service provided by former Chair and CEO Laura Shapira Karet. During her tenure, Giant Eagle continued to be a beloved household brand, expanded into new regions, and grew in the highly competitive retail food industry.
Karet pushed the organization towards next generation technology and capabilities, spearheading the transformation of Giant Eagle's technology platform to a modern, cloud-based system. These advancements enabled Giant Eagle to stay ahead of ever-evolving trends in retail, e-commerce, customer behavior and supply chain while creating a differentiated guest experience in stores and online. Karet also developed the GetGo and Market District businesses which have been key growth drivers for Giant Eagle.

Giant Eagle is now looking forward to bringing additional value to its Guests and neighborhoods through strong everyday value, a reimagined myPerks loyalty program, and a differentiated shopping experience. This period of growth will be guided by interim CEO Bill Artman who has been with the company for 38 years in various positions including President of Supermarkets. Early signs of success have been seen with the relaunch of the weekly circular with market-leading price points, expansion of Market District and GetGo formats, as well as introduction of price lock on more than 800 seasonal essentials across supermarkets and GetGo stores.
The company wishes Karet all the best in her future endeavors as it looks forward to continuing its success in this new fiscal year.
