CARLISLE, Pa. - PennZone -- Evangeline M. Mitchell, an advocate for greater access, diversity, and inclusion in legal education and the legal profession, was recently honored with the Change Maker Award by the Penn State Dickinson Law Antiracist Development Institute. The award was given during the Inaugural Convening: Building an Antiracist Law School, Legal Academy, and Legal Profession. It was presented by Jay L. Austin, executive director of the Law School Admission Council's Reaffirming Individuals Supporting Education "RISE" Alliance.
As the organizer and founder of the National Black Pre-Law Conference and Law Fair, the National HBCU Pre-Law Summit and Law Expo, the Future Legal Eagles Flight School and the Bridge Builders Esquire: National (Virtual) Mentorship Program for Aspiring Black Lawyers, Attorney Mitchell has worked with dedication and passion to increase the number of Black applicants, law students, lawyers, and leaders in the legal field. She has also created informational websites, social media groups, and has published several books to guide aspiring lawyers that she has given away for free to thousands of pre-law students.

In addition to her advocacy work, Attorney Mitchell is also an award-winning documentary filmmaker whose film, Becoming Black Lawyers, has won over 30 awards and screened at over 100 film festivals worldwide. Her upcoming law-related documentaries and oral history projects focus on the lived experiences and legacies of Black law students and lawyers.
The Changemaker Award, according to the Penn State Dickinson Law Antiracist Development Institute, is presented to individuals who prioritize the needs of their community and demonstrate significant impact in the legal industry by providing access or information to facilitate diversity and antiracism.
"I am extraordinarily honored to receive this award from Penn State Dickinson Law's Antiracist Development Institute," said Attorney Mitchell. "I greatly respect Dean Danielle M. Conway, Professor Dermot Groome and program manager TaWanda H. Stallworth's leadership in this courageous, difficult, and badly needed effort. To be recognized by a group doing such significant work to push for meaningful change is a high honor. I see this recognition as a charge to continue my devotion to fight the good fight and press to do much more and make an even greater impact. I stand with them and look forward to collaborating and supporting their ambitious goals for years to come."
