PITTSBURGH, July 29, 2024 ~ Emerson, a global leader in automation and technology, has recently announced the release of its Ovation™ 4.0 Automation Platform. This new platform includes transformative generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) that will revolutionize data analysis and decision-making for power and water companies.

The Ovation™ 4.0 Automation Platform is designed to enhance data and inform decisions, ultimately helping power and water companies accelerate growth, improve efficiencies, and drive more predictive, reliable, and resilient performance in their operations. With the digital transformation of these industries, there is now an abundance of data available – but much of it is fragmented and siloed. This new platform aims to provide a modern computing environment that can effectively mine large and complex data sets to harness the power of GenAI for better operational insights.

Bob Yeager, president of Emerson's power and water business, stated that "the digital revolution is generating so much valuable data that our Ovation Automation Platform with GenAI can harvest to create accessible, usable insights to inform smarter and more timely action." The platform will be trained on a secure foundation of knowledge-based data and will augment workforce expertise by prioritizing and automating tasks. It will also provide predictive guidance and recommend appropriate actions to increase reliability, improve customer experiences, and optimize overall operations.

One of the key features of the Ovation™ 4.0 Automation Platform is its AI-based capabilities. These capabilities will support workforce empowerment by working alongside operators at all experience levels to optimize workflows for more effective operations. The AI assistants will also help diagnose issues and suggest or implement control actions to return to normal operating conditions.

In addition, the platform will enable remote operations by working in tandem with operators at centralized control centers. The AI assistants will act as autonomous guardians providing prescriptive guidance for information processing and decision support. This feature will also contribute to reliable continuous operations by predicting maintenance requirements and mitigating common reliability issues such as faulty sensors, mechanical wear, temperature fluctuations, and pressure deviations.

The Ovation GenAI assistant will also play a crucial role in grid optimization by offering advanced situational awareness that improves decision-making from power generation to delivery. This will result in increased grid stability. Furthermore, the platform will enhance cybersecurity by using robust AI models to improve threat detection, response automation, vulnerability management, and overall security protocols.

Initially released on Microsoft Azure's OpenAI service, the Emerson Ovation GenAI will also be available on other large language models that rely on closed, proprietary, and secure data sets. Yeager believes that "today's most forward-thinking power and water companies will use our new Ovation 4.0 Automation Platform with GenAI to help sort through their vast amounts of data." He also stated that this technology will enable "Boundless Automation™" by breaking down data silos and unleashing the power of software.

Emerson announced its new Ovation GenAI at its annual Ovation Users Group Conference in Pittsburgh. The company encourages interested parties to join the Emerson Exchange 365 Community and follow the Emerson Ovation Automation Platform on LinkedIn for additional resources. They can also connect with Emerson via Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube. With the release of the Ovation™ 4.0 Automation Platform with integrated and dedicated GenAI deployment, Emerson is set to revolutionize data analysis and decision-making for power and water companies worldwide.
