CHICAGO, March 14, 2023 ~ On Saturday, March 25, the American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) will host its 108th Annual Meeting Gala in Philadelphia. The keynote address will be delivered by Janine Austin Clayton, MD, Associate Director for Research on Women's Health and Director of the Office of Research on Women's Health at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Clayton will also receive the 2023 AMWA President's Award in recognition of her excellence in science, medicine, clinical practice, leadership, humanitarianism and philanthropy.
The theme for this year's meeting is "Thriving, Leading, Transforming" and reflects AMWA's aspiration for women in medicine to be leaders and make an impact collectively and individually in their communities. The meeting will be held jointly with the Medical Women's International Association (MWIA), with MWIA President Eleanor Nwadinobi joining from Nigeria.
The opening keynote address will be delivered by Joan Reede, MD, MS, MPH, MBA Dean for Diversity and Community Partnership at Harvard Medical School on "Addressing Racial Inequities at Medical Institutions". Other topics to be discussed include benefits of unique characteristics in leadership; implications of climate change on health; bridging connections between music, art, medicine and health; finding worth as a woman physician in the workplace; delivering exceptional care to LGBTQIA+ patients; how physicians can drive gun violence solutions; women's roles and lessons learned in the global war against COVID-19; improving patient care through a sex and gender specific lens; addressing benefits including fertility care and workplace flexibility; differences in imaging in women; care for incarcerated women; eating disorders not by choice among others.

AMWA is also hosting a Women in Medicine Reception at The College of Physicians of Philadelphia and Mutter Museum —in partnership with American College of Physicians Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) at Drexel University—the Women in Medicine Legacy Foundation—the Philadelphia County Medical Society—and the Alliance for Women's Health and Prevention.
In addition to this event AMWA is hosting its first Healthcare Innovation Challenge where five women physician entrepreneurs will pitch novel concepts to improve healthcare with a grand prize winner receiving $10 000 plus membership to MATTER.Health (a health tech incubator) as well as an AMWAxCel Fellowship.
The AMWA Gala promises to be an inspiring evening that celebrates excellence among women physicians while providing opportunities for learning about new developments within healthcare that can help improve patient care around the world.
