PITTSBURGH - PennZone -- With DisasterTheory working on their second studio album, having a chance to sit down with members of the band can be a task all of its own.

In a rare moment, we had a chance to ask DisasterTheory bassist, Derrick Everhart, some questions and we took that opportunity as quickly as it arose.

Everhart can be considered a veteran, having played bass for a decade and says that he decided to be a bassist after "going to other shows and noticing that bass was something you can feel in your bones."  This clearly made an impression on Everhart and is definitely something he brings to DisasterTheory music as well.  He says the bassist that influenced him however was Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea.

With the release of DisasterTheory's debut 14 track album "Dying Side of Life" and the brand new single "What's Up," which is a cover of the hit song by 4 Non- Blondes, we wondered what Derrick's favorite song by DisasterTheory is so far.  Everhart says that Hyperdrive is his favorite and says "the dynamics of the songs softer verses, heavy and catchy chorus plays a big part in that. Plus it makes me giggle every time it pauses and says 'Hyperdrive'. I guess I'm easily amused."  He says however that one of his favorite songs to play on bass is song called "Alcoholic" by the band Circle7.

Any aspiring bass player listening to DisasterTheory's music, will undoubtedly hear that thunder on the low end. So what gear does Everhart use to get that undeniably clear bottom end? He says he uses an "acoustic b200h head with a acoustic b150 cab" but says he plans on getting an Eleven Rack for a little more flexibility, and for even better recording quality.

We asked Everhart what his advice would be for aspiring bassists. We couldn't tell if he was being playful but his advice seems sound enough. He says he doesn't have much advice to give except "slap the hell out of it and have fun. That's all that matters."
