United Nations Selects Duquesne to Help Bring Peace to Peacekeepers

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 14, 2024 ~ In the midst of ongoing wars and conflicts, United Nations peacekeepers are facing immense stress and pressure. To address the mental health needs of these brave individuals, the U.N. has turned to Duquesne University's Partnership in Education (PIE) for assistance.

The organization has partnered with the U.N.'s Division of Healthcare Management & Occupational Safety and Health to provide its popular YouTube videos on mindfulness. These videos focus on techniques for calming emotions and managing anxiety, and are now available on the U.N.'s Digital Mental Health Platforms. They will also be accessible to all U.N. Uniformed Personnel worldwide.

Dr. John Pollock, Director of PIE, expressed his excitement about this collaboration, stating, "We are thrilled that the U.N. has selected our videos to assist their personnel, who face difficult and stressful situations daily." He added that one of PIE's goals is to increase health literacy through various resources, and it is an honor to be able to help these courageous individuals who work tirelessly to keep people safe in dangerous places around the world.

The videos have been embedded on the U.N.'s MindCompanion app, making them easily accessible even for those without internet access. This app is available for free to everyone.

Dr. Pollock, a biology professor and award-winning educator, founded PIE with a mission to improve STEM education and health literacy. Along with Dr. Brinley Kantorski and local artists, they have created innovative educational products such as apps, games, and videos that can be found on their website.

With over 11,000 subscribers and 2 million views on their YouTube channel, PIE has gained recognition for its impactful work in promoting health literacy.
