What is a Kodo?

This famous Japanese taiko ensemble has been performing around the world for over 40 years. The name of the ensemble has two meanings: " heartbeat " and " children focusing on beating the taiko drums ."

In addition to taiko performances, the group plays various traditional Japanese instruments such as flute and shamisen, and performs dances and songs. The repertoire includes pieces based on traditional Japanese rhythms as well as pieces by contemporary composers and the members' own compositions.
Since its debut at the Berlin Festival in 1981, the company has performed 7,000 times.
