NIKKO, Japan - PennZone -- Under the motto "Your coffee will create the future of Nikko," a portion of sales from coffee purchased onboard the Spacia X will be used to support the preservation of Nikko's nature, history, and culture as well as to promote the use of English-Speaking guides.
By facilitating guiding opportunities through its TOBU RAILWAY X COFFEE PROJECT, Tobu Railway will not only be fostering its human tourism resources - a pressing issue for local communities, but it will be enhancing the value of its customer experience. While visiting Nikko with a guide, travelers will also gain an understanding of the environmental considerations taken by the communities. This establishes a connection between the region and its visitors.
The guided tour takes visitors around Nikko Toshogu Shrine and Rinnoji Temple (Sanbutsu-do), both registered UNESCO World Heritage sites. These sites are characterized by elaborate carvings, magnificent architecture, and deep ties with the nature of Nikko. They are also sacred spots that embody the intentions and wishes of those in power at that time. This is not something that can be well understood by just looking at the sites. The guided tour is operated by a government certified tour interpreter, who is a member of TOTAK - an association of registered guides in Tochigi Prefecture. These guides understand and are able to explain both the local connections and historical background of the region and the sites.
