NEW YORK - PennZone -- Four new educational bingo card sets are now available online to support first-grade English instruction through structured, game-based learning. The new resources focus on verbs, adjectives, nouns, and sight words, key components of early literacy development.

Each bingo card set is designed for classroom or home use, offering teachers, parents, and tutors a tool for reinforcing language concepts through participation and repetition. The materials are printable and suitable for group or individual activities in both in-person and remote learning environments.

The new first grade bingo cards include:
  • Grade 1 Verbs Bingo Cards – Introduces action words to support sentence formation and vocabulary growth.
  • Grade 1 Adjectives Bingo Cards – Encourages descriptive language use to expand word knowledge.
  • Grade 1 Nouns Bingo Cards – Reinforces recognition of people, places, and things to strengthen grammar awareness.
  • Grade 1 Sight Words Bingo Cards – Provides practice with high-frequency words essential for reading fluency.
The use of bingo and similar structured games in early education is supported by academic research. A 2022 review in Frontiers in Psychology by Hamari, Koivisto, and Sarsa, "Does Gamification Work? A Literature Review of Empirical Studies on Gamification," found that game-based activities improved student motivation, engagement, and retention compared to traditional instruction.

A 2019 study in the Journal of Educational Research by Turgut and Irgin, "The Effects of Educational Games on Vocabulary Learning: A Quasi-Experimental Study with Young Learners," reported that word-based games such as bingo led to measurable gains in vocabulary acquisition and reading fluency among elementary students.

Researchers note that bingo's structured repetition, peer interaction, and immediate feedback promote engagement and retention without relying on rote memorization. The activity format can be adapted for different ability levels and classroom settings.
