~ Governor Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania has taken a major step in supporting the state's seniors by signing an Executive Order directing the Department of Aging to develop a 10-year master plan to improve services for older Pennsylvanians. The order is part of Governor Shapiro's commitment to ensure that seniors have access to critical services and his proposed expansion of the Property Tax/Rent Rebate program.
The Governor was joined by Secretary of Aging Jason Kavulich and other state leaders in Scranton, Pennsylvania, where he signed the Executive Order. Following the signing, Governor Shapiro met with older adults in Scranton to discuss how this plan will benefit them. Secretary Kavulich will now embark on a statewide listening tour to actively engage seniors across the Commonwealth in the plan's development.
U.S. Senator Bob Casey praised Governor Shapiro for his leadership and work on behalf of Pennsylvania's seniors, saying "We owe it to the generations who came before us to ensure they have resources and support as they age…As we build a better economy and look towards Pennsylvania's future, we must ensure older adults and people with disabilities are given the support and protection they need to be healthy, safe, and economically secure."
