Latest Commercial Wins Highlight Expanding Demand for Ascent's Lightweight Thin-Film Solar Technology Across Space, Defense, High-Altitude Platforms, Drones and Autonomous Marine Systems While Reinforcing the Company's Primary Focus on the Fast-Growing Space Economy

THORNTON, Colo. - PennZone -- As governments and private industry continue investing hundreds of billions of dollars into satellites, national defense, autonomous systems, orbital manufacturing, lunar infrastructure and next-generation aerospace technologies, companies capable of delivering lightweight, highly efficient power solutions are becoming increasingly valuable participants in the rapidly evolving space economy.

One company steadily expanding its footprint across multiple high-growth markets is Ascent Solar Technologies, Inc. (N A S D A Q: ASTI), a U.S. innovator specializing in featherweight, flexible Copper Indium Gallium Selenide (CIGS) thin-film photovoltaic technology engineered for environments where conventional rigid solar panels simply cannot compete.

Following several major technological milestones during 2026, the Company released another important update today that broadens its long-term commercial opportunity while reinforcing its commitment to the rapidly expanding space industry.

Investment Highlights
  • Today's announcement expands commercial opportunities into the rapidly growing global drone market
  • Space remains Ascent Solar's primary strategic focus
  • New European High-Altitude Platform Station (HAPS) project underway
  • Growing orders from unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) manufacturers
  • Expanding opportunities within unmanned marine vehicle (UMV) markets
  • 100-module satellite order supports future recurring space revenue potential
  • Products integrated into Reditus Space's ENOS spacecraft
  • Successful Atomic Oxygen testing validates durability in Low Earth Orbit
  • NASA collaborations advancing next-generation space power technologies
  • 40 years of R&D supported by a 5-MW manufacturing facility in Colorado

Today's News Opens Another High-Growth Market

This morning, Ascent Solar announced that while space continues to be its highest-priority market, the Company is now experiencing accelerating commercial demand from drone manufacturers and autonomous systems developers worldwide.

Management emphasized that the same characteristics making its proprietary photovoltaic technology ideal for satellites and spacecraft—extremely low weight, flexibility and durability—also create significant advantages for unmanned aerial vehicles, high-altitude platforms and autonomous marine systems.

Unlike traditional rigid solar panels, Ascent's flexible CIGS photovoltaic technology can conform to aircraft wings and curved surfaces while providing exceptional power-to-weight performance of approximately 500 to 600 watts per kilogram, enabling aircraft to remain airborne longer without sacrificing aerodynamic performance.

European Drone Programs Begin Generating Commercial Orders

Today's announcement revealed several encouraging commercial developments that suggest the Company's technology is moving beyond demonstrations into early commercial deployment.

Among the most notable is a European High-Altitude Platform Station (HAPS) project, where Ascent expects to deliver an initial 250-watt photovoltaic sub-array before the end of the summer.

In addition, the Company has already received initial wing integration orders from two Eastern European drone manufacturers, representing a potential recurring annual demand estimated at approximately 200 to 300 kilowatts as production scales.

While these remain developing commercial relationships, they demonstrate growing industry recognition of Ascent's unique technology advantages.

Autonomous Marine Systems Add Another Growth Opportunity

Today's release also highlighted growing demand from unmanned marine vehicle developers.

According to management, two separate marine technology companies—one domestic and one international—have placed initial product orders that could eventually translate into recurring annual demand estimated between 125 and 200 kilowatts.

This expansion complements earlier initiatives involving ocean-monitoring technologies and reinforces management's strategy of leveraging one core photovoltaic platform across multiple specialized markets.

Space Continues to Drive the Long-Term Opportunity

Despite expanding into drones and autonomous systems, management made it clear that space remains Ascent Solar's primary strategic focus.

Today's announcement highlighted two important commercial space developments already underway.

The Company's thin-film photovoltaic products have been integrated into Reditus Space's ENOS spacecraft, scheduled for launch later this year.

Additionally, Ascent recently received an order for 100 photovoltaic modules supporting another satellite program focused on in-space manufacturing.

Management believes these projects alone could generate approximately 10 to 25 kilowatts of recurring annual product demand, providing another indication that commercial adoption within the space industry continues to build.

Technology Validation Continues to Build

Recent technological milestones continue strengthening the Company's competitive positioning.

Earlier this summer, Ascent announced that its space-grade photovoltaic products successfully completed Atomic Oxygen exposure testing without measurable degradation.

Atomic Oxygen is one of the most destructive environmental hazards encountered by spacecraft operating in Low Earth Orbit, gradually eroding many conventional materials over time.

Successfully passing this testing provides another layer of validation that Ascent's technology is capable of surviving some of the harshest operating environments in commercial spaceflight.

NASA Collaborations Continue Advancing Future Technologies

The Company also continues working alongside NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center and Glenn Research Center on next-generation space power technologies.

One particularly exciting initiative involves photovoltaic systems capable of receiving transmitted energy through future space-based power-beaming architectures.

As orbital infrastructure expands over the coming decade—including commercial space stations, orbital data centers and in-space manufacturing facilities—the ability to efficiently receive and distribute power may become an increasingly valuable capability.

Momentum Continues Throughout 2026

During its July corporate update, management highlighted significant progress achieved during the first half of 2026.

Among the accomplishments were:
  • Completion of prepaid customer orders across multiple industries
  • Successful Atomic Oxygen testing
  • Continued advancement of power-beaming technologies
  • European business development initiatives
  • Expansion into HAPS and UAV applications
  • Completion of an up to $25 million financing
  • Ongoing development of additional strategic partnerships

Management also outlined plans to continue expanding its customer base, improve photovoltaic efficiency, execute additional environmental testing and broaden commercialization efforts across multiple industries during the remainder of the year.

Built for Specialized Markets

Unlike conventional solar manufacturers focused primarily on rooftops or utility-scale installations, Ascent Solar targets applications where weight, flexibility, resilience and performance are mission-critical.

Its technology has already demonstrated applications across:
  • Commercial satellites
  • Defense platforms
  • High-Altitude Platform Stations (HAPS)
  • Unmanned aerial vehicles
  • Autonomous marine systems
  • Spacecraft
  • Aerospace
  • Industrial applications
  • Consumer products

Supporting these opportunities is Ascent's research and development center together with its 5-megawatt manufacturing facility in Thornton, Colorado, providing both development and production capabilities under one roof.

Investment Perspective

For investors seeking exposure to emerging technologies supporting the expanding space economy, Ascent Solar represents an intriguing small-cap growth story.

Rather than competing directly within the crowded traditional solar market, the Company has built a differentiated technology platform designed specifically for applications where conventional photovoltaic products cannot compete.

Today's announcement reinforces that strategy.

While commercial space remains management's highest priority, expanding demand from drones, autonomous marine vehicles and high-altitude platforms significantly broadens the Company's total addressable market without diverting attention from its core business.

Coupled with successful technology validation, NASA collaborations, growing commercial partnerships, recurring space opportunities and continued product innovation, Ascent Solar appears increasingly well positioned to capitalize on several of today's fastest-growing aerospace and defense markets.

As governments and commercial operators continue investing heavily in satellites, autonomous systems, advanced defense technologies and orbital infrastructure, Ascent Solar's lightweight, flexible photovoltaic solutions could become an increasingly important enabling technology powering the next generation of aerospace innovation.
