PHILADELPHIA, July 16, 2024 ~ Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) has once again been recognized as a leader in disability inclusion by the 2024 Disability Equality Index (DEI)®. This marks the sixth consecutive year that CHOP has received a perfect score of 100 out of 100 on the index, solidifying its position as one of the "Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion."
The DEI is an annual benchmarking tool used to evaluate employers' disability policies, practices, and initiatives. It is considered the most comprehensive index in the nation and is used to measure progress towards disability inclusion in the workplace.
"We are honored that CHOP has been selected as one of the 'Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion' for six years in a row," said Gilbert Davis, Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. "This recognition is a testament to our diverse workforce and their contributions. At CHOP, we value diversity and all unique abilities, which makes it such a great place to work."

CHOP has made diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) an integral part of its organization. The hospital champions numerous Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and Clinical Advisory Groups (CAGs), which provide employees with opportunities to connect with the organization's mission and ensure that diversity and inclusion are fully integrated throughout the hospital and CHOP Care Network.
One such ERG is the CHOP All Abilities Resource Group (AARG), whose mission is to support diversity and inclusion efforts for people with disabilities. The AARG aims to create a safe and welcoming environment that promotes recruitment, support, advocacy, and professional development for all employees at CHOP.
Allison Simms, Program Manager for Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Career Path Program and community outreach officer of AARG, shared her experience as an ally for people with disabilities. "Through my work with AARG, I have learned that a diverse workforce brings a wealth of knowledge to teams and encourages creativity and innovation," she said. "This recognition showcases CHOP's commitment to being a diverse employer and highlights the abilities of our employees. We are proud to lead the way in making CHOP accessible for all employees, patients, and families."

In addition to AARG, CHOP's other ERGs cover identity categories such as gender, sexual orientation, race/ethnicity, Veteran status, and generations/age. They also include four physician affinity groups.
The Disability Equality Index was launched in 2015 by Disability:IN and The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) and is considered the most robust disability inclusion assessment tool in business. Its purpose is to promote disability inclusion in the workplace and recognize organizations that are leading the way in this area.
CHOP's continued recognition on the DEI is a testament to its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The hospital's efforts not only benefit its employees but also create a more inclusive environment for patients, families, and community members.
