Organizer sets a course to raise $10,000+, while pushing boundaries of own physical and mental endurance and embracing 2020 reality of getting "comfortable being uncomfortable"
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - PennZone -- "Leaving 2020 in the dust while raising money for causes I support is the key motivation for Coop's California Coastal Charity Cycle," says Allan Cooper, organizer of the solo ride that will cover 160 miles of California coastline – from Santa Barbara to Newport Beach - in just two days (Dec 29-30).
With COVID altering so many aspects of our lives, Cooper was inspired to do more, not less, to support the charities he holds dear. A key inspiration for the ride is Cooper's fellow Australian – and famous cricket captain – Steve Waugh. The Steve Waugh Foundation is focused on helping children with rare diseases and their families to get the support and medical resources they need. Like many active, sports-enthusiasts who have played contact sports over decades, Cooper has suffered his fair share of concussions over the years and has come to realize that these incidents might play an outsize role in his lifelong battle with depression. "I have pledged my brain to science and am a huge supporter of the Concussion Legacy Foundation." To learn more, https://concussionfoundation.org/.
As the son of a military family, Cooper is dedicated to honoring military service and supports the Johnny Mac Soilders Fund, which provides scholarships to veterans and military family members, especially to children of the fallen or disabled. To learn more, http://www.johnnymac.org/.
And, finally, Cooper's charity ride will also raise funds to combat hunger in America – an issue that will only prove more rampant as we enter the brutal winter months and COVID continues to impact the economy – and will include donations to Feeding America. "I really just want to build awareness and engagement in these charities," said Cooper. "The goal is, of course, to raise the money, but it's also about something bigger: building a larger audience for these charities and inspiring more people to understand the needs of others, including children born with rare diseases, concussions and their correlation with depression, the need to support military families around the world, and the knowledge that we can make a difference for starving Americans. We are all capable of helping out in one way or another during this unprecedented time in our collective history."
