CLEARWATER, Fla., May 20, 2025 ~ BayCare, a leading healthcare system in Florida, has recently announced the appointment of Dr. Kriel Ramcharitar as their new vice president and chief medical officer for value-based care. This decision is effective as of May 19th.
In his new role, Dr. Ramcharitar will be responsible for enhancing value-based care and ensuring the sustainability of healthcare delivery through collaborative partnerships with BayCare Physician Partners (BPP), BayCare Medical Group, and BayCare Plus Medicare Advantage Plan physician leaders, payers, community-based organizations, and preferred partners.
According to Dr. Sowmya Viswanathan, BayCare's chief physician executive, "We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Kriel Ramcharitar to BayCare. His extensive background in both clinical practice and population health strategy will be invaluable as we continue to advance our value-based care initiatives." She further added that Dr. Ramcharitar's leadership will play a crucial role in aligning priorities to deliver even greater value to patients and partners.
In his new position, Dr. Ramcharitar will develop processes, structures, and teams to quickly assess requirements, deploy resources, and acquire or build new and innovative capabilities and care models to meet the needs of value-based lives with speed and scale.

Expressing his excitement about joining BayCare, Dr. Ramcharitar said, "Joining BayCare is an incredible opportunity to work alongside some of the most dedicated and innovative healthcare professionals in the region." He also shared his goal of building on BayCare's strong foundation of care coordination and data-driven decision-making to enhance how they deliver value-based care across the system.
Dr. Ramcharitar will work closely with clinical and operational leaders to oversee services and programs aimed at furthering population health management strategies. He will also lead through a dyad model with the chief operating officer of value-based care and president of BayCare Select Health Plan.
Furthermore, he will foster a collaborative working relationship with physician leaders and constituencies within BayCare and the community, as well as with all leaders across the health system.
Prior to joining BayCare, Dr. Ramcharitar held various positions, including serving as a faculty member at the Jefferson College of Public Health at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, vice president and chief medical officer of Memorial Hermann Health System's ACO and Population Health Service Organization in Houston, and chief medical officer of JSL International in Houston. He also served in several leadership roles with the National Health Service in the United Kingdom.

Dr. Ramcharitar holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Doctor of Medicine degrees from The University of the West Indies – Trinidad, a Master of Science in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine at the University of London, and completed Higher Specialist Training in Public Health Medicine from the University of Oxford – National Health Service Oxford. He also completed his medical residency program with the United Kingdom National Health Service.
In his new role at BayCare, Dr. Ramcharitar will work towards establishing and maintaining compliance with all relevant government program requirements and ensuring proper maintenance of accounting principles and fiscal processes for Clinically Integrated Networks and Accountable Care Organizations (ACO).
With his extensive experience and expertise in both clinical practice and population health strategy, Dr. Ramcharitar is expected to make a significant impact on BayCare's value-based care initiatives. His leadership will play a crucial role in driving better health outcomes for patients while managing costs effectively.
