WASHINGTON, April 3, 2025 ~ The Lilabean Foundation (LBF) has emerged as a crucial player in the advancement of pediatric brain cancer research through its strategic collaboration with the Children's Brain Tumor Network (CBTN) at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. From its humble beginnings as a small family foundation, LBF has now become a leading force in funding cutting-edge research and supporting innovation in childhood brain tumor care.
One of the key areas of focus for LBF's support is Project Accelerate, which aims to enhance the Pediatric Brain Tumor Atlas and drive precision medicine. With the funding provided by LBF, CBTN was able to hire expert data engineers and bioinformaticians, breaking down data silos and improving AI-driven predictive models. This has resulted in improved diagnostic accuracy and treatment planning for pediatric brain cancer patients.
Dr. Adam Resnick, Scientific Director of the Children's Brain Tumor Network, expressed his gratitude for The Lilabean Foundation's generosity, stating that their partnership is paving the way for the next era of pediatric brain cancer treatment and care. He also added that thanks to LBF's continued support, they are one step closer to ensuring that children with brain tumors have the best possible outcomes.

In addition to this, LBF's backing has also amplified the impact of the National Institutes of Health's data generation initiative by assisting CBTN in extracting and shipping over 7,000 specimens. This effort has standardized essential molecular data and positioned CBTN at the forefront of AI research. By integrating clinical, molecular, and imaging data into one multimodal dataset, researchers are developing more personalized and effective treatments.
Nicole Giroux, Executive Director of The Lilabean Foundation, emphasized the significance of this integration of multimodal data by stating that it has the potential to dramatically improve how we understand and treat pediatric brain tumors.
This same dataset played a crucial role in helping CBTN secure a first-of-its-kind ARPA-H award focused on pediatric innovation and forming a new partnership with Amazon Web Services. This has paved the way for even more advanced AI breakthroughs in the field of pediatric brain cancer research.
Jena Lilly, Executive Director of CBTN, expressed her gratitude for The Lilabean Foundation's support, stating that their partnership has been invaluable in driving forward their shared mission to improve the lives of children battling brain tumors. Together, they are creating a future where cures and better treatments are within reach.
