YORK, Pa., Sept. 11, 2025 ~ In York, Pennsylvania, workers at Local 776 have taken a stand against their employer, RISE Dispensary, a subsidiary of Green Thumb Industries (GTI). The reason for their strike is an Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) by the company, which has been accused of bargaining in bad faith.
The decision to strike came after members unanimously rejected the company's last, best, and final offer. The workers are demanding fair wages, dignity, and respect in their workplace. According to Jesse Case, Director of the Teamsters Food Processing Division, "Our members are sending a clear message: this strike will not end until GTI bargains in good faith and delivers the contract these workers deserve."
One of the main issues for the striking workers is the discrepancy in wages between RISE employees in York and those at other RISE dispensaries. Despite GTI's revenue of over a billion dollars last year and its position as the second-largest market cap among all publicly traded cannabis companies in the world, RISE employees in York are not receiving equal pay.

John Stambaugh, a member of Local 776 at RISE Dispensary, stated that "This strike isn't just about us — it's about showing that even a handful of dedicated workers can push back against a giant corporation when they're not being treated fairly." He emphasized that they are fighting for a contract that reflects their value and ensures they are not just disposable parts of GTI's billion-dollar machine.
This is not the first time GTI Teamsters have gone on strike. In fact, it is the second time in less than three years. This pattern is reflective of what is happening across the cannabis industry where corporations are making record profits while frontline workers are left behind. However, Teamsters across the country are fighting back to ensure that those who make this industry run also get a share in its prosperity.
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, founded in 1903, represents 1.3 million hardworking people in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. According to their website, they are committed to fighting for fair wages and working conditions for their members. Matt McQuaid, a spokesperson for the Teamsters, can be contacted for more information.
In conclusion, the strike at RISE Dispensary in York is a reflection of the larger issues faced by workers in the cannabis industry. Despite record profits for corporations like GTI, frontline workers are often left behind. The Teamsters are standing up for these workers and fighting to ensure they receive fair treatment and a share in the industry's prosperity.
