PHILADELPHIA, June 23, 2025 ~ As the School District of Philadelphia (SDP) prepares for the upcoming school year, Imagine Learning has announced its continued involvement in the district's Summer Institute. The event, which will take place from June 23-27, 2025, aims to equip 1,050 educators and administrators with best practices for implementing high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) in classroom instruction.
This is the second year of the Summer Institute and it is expected to nearly double the previous year's participation. This highlights SDP's commitment to improving literacy outcomes across the district. In partnership with Imagine Learning EL Education, the training will provide educators with tools and support to make instruction more engaging, effective, and equitable for all students.
The feedback and insights from SDP educators during this multi-day professional learning experience will directly inform Imagine Learning's ongoing evolution of its implementation strategies, educator supports, and product development. This ensures that their solutions continue to meet real classroom needs at scale.

Superintendent of SDP, Tony B. Watlington Sr., Ed.D., expressed his excitement about the district's commitment to academic achievement beyond just test scores. He stated that they want students to feel empowered and confident in their literacy skills. The implementation of practices such as the science of reading principles and Imagine Learning's EL Education will make instruction more personalized and equitable for both educators and students.
Kinsey Rawe, EVP & Chief Product Officer at Imagine Learning, shared their mission to support educators so they feel empowered and prepared to help every student on their unique learning journeys. She also expressed pride in partnering with SDP on the Summer Institute and collaborating on this critical work.
In addition to professional development for educators, SDP, Imagine Learning, and the Free Library of Philadelphia will co-host a recognition dinner honoring 15 students in grades K-8 for outstanding EL Reading projects. These students exemplify the impact of high-quality instructional materials and evidence-based instruction on their learning journeys.
The Summer Institute and the recognition dinner serve as a celebration of student success and highlight the potential of every learner. With Imagine Learning's continued involvement, SDP is committed to providing high-quality instruction and support for all students in the district.
