Former FinCEN Director and U.S. Economic Security Official Will Drive Firm's Efforts to Help Clients Manage Geopolitical Challenges and Risks

NEW YORK - PennZone -- K2 Integrity, the leading global risk and financial crimes advisory firm, today announced that Himamauli Das, formerly Director of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network and senior White House and U.S. Department of the Treasury lawyer and policy official, has rejoined the firm's Washington, D.C. office as Senior Managing Director and Counsel.

Him left the firm in 2021 to serve as the acting Director of FinCEN for the U.S. Treasury Department, where he oversaw the continued expansion and refinement of the nation's anti-money laundering regime and represented the United States before the Egmont Group and with FIUs globally.  Him now returns to K2 Integrity and becomes an important part of the deep, senior regulatory and policy expertise of the firm.

Juan Zarate, Global Co-Managing Partner and Chief Strategy Officer, commented, "With 25 years of experience at the intersection of public policy, legal expertise, and global risk and economic security, Him is one of the world's leading experts on economic security and will play a key role in K2 Integrity's global and systemic efforts to support clients navigating complex geopolitical, regulatory, and compliance challenges.  His background positions him uniquely to help guide our clients through the convergence of sanctions, financial crimes, investment security, export controls, and trade-related risks and regimes. Him's expertise will strengthen our ability to respond to client needs and the rapidly evolving economic security landscape."

"I am incredibly excited to rejoin K2 Integrity's incredible team of financial crimes and national security leaders," said Him Das.  "Regulatory risks arise from the intersection of rules on AML/CFT, sanctions, investment security, export controls, and trade, and I look forward to working with financial institutions, companies, and governments seeking to navigate an increasingly complex and evolving geoeconomic landscape."

Him is recognized internationally as an expert on AML/CFT, sanctions, investment security, export controls, and trade matters, drawing on his experience in various roles in the U.S. government, and will focus on helping financial institutions, companies, and governments build compliance programs, assess and navigate regulatory risks, and implement monitorships and oversight mechanisms.

Him brings both technical expertise, with a broad strategic perspective, from his time serving as a senior government lawyer and policy maker. In addition to his role at FinCEN, Him served at the White House in roles as the Senior Director for International Trade and Investment at the National Security Council and National Economic Council, and as Deputy Legal Adviser to the National Security Council.  He also served at the Treasury Department as the Assistant General Counsel for International Affairs and as acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Trade and Investment.  In these roles, he has led diverse legal and policy efforts, including shaping the legal and operational framework for the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) and evaluating numerous transactions, working on a broad range of OFAC sanctions and export control programs, and leading efforts to enhance trade remedies to respond to Chinese overcapacity and respond to trade disputes, among other matters. Mr. Das began his career as an attorney-adviser at the State Department, where he worked on sanctions, export controls, trade, and climate issues.
