SHERMAN OAKS, Calif. - PennZone -- Gary S. Monroe, C.D. (Clinical Director) for Accelerated Treatment Systems, in Sherman Oaks, California, recently met with Mike Pavlovich, PharmD, FAPhA, of Westcliff Compounding Pharmacy, in Newport Beach, California, to discuss several promising treatments for Cocaine and Methamphetamine addicts.

The discussion centered around several medications (GABAergic medications, such as baclofen, tiagabine, and topiramate, and the glutamatergic medication, modafinil.  Disulfiram, an old treatment for alcohol dependence, may also have efficacy for cocaine relapse prevention.) that block cocaine euphoria, or reduce cocaine craving and have shown potential to reduce the chances of relapse. Two studies regarding Methamphetamine addiction have shown promising results with the use of Naltrexone, Bupropion, and A118G Polymorphism.

Accelerated Treatment Systems plans on conducting several studies of their own with these treatments.  "We plan to get moving quickly, to bring hope to individuals who suffer from this debilitating issue and bring in the appropriate investment and scientific research," said Mr. Gary S. Monroe.
