MIAMI - PennZone -- Barbara Casanova is pleased to announce her candidacy for REC State Committeewoman. Ms. Casanova comes from a family with a long political history in Miami-Dade and Washington, DC. Her father, Jose Manuel Casanova, was a former Chairman of the Miami-Dade GOP. Both her father and mother, Alicia Labrit Casanova, were presidential Appointees under President Ronald Reagan and George H. Bush Sr. She learned about politics, campaigning, and advocacy at her parent's side early and followed in her parent's footsteps.

"I've spent half my life in Washington, DC, and half my life in Miami, but like so many, I returned to Maimi for the last time during the pandemic to be closer to family. I was shocked and saddened to find the state of affairs in the Miami-Dade government and the Miami-Dade GOP. The executive board treats the REC like a club, and every time new members with new ideas attempted to get involved, they were treated as infiltrators. They prefer to keep the status quo to protect their titles instead of investing in its members and teaching them to be influential leaders for the GOP. This is no way to grow the GOP and elect Republicans to office," stated Ms. Casanova.

When elected, I will work toward:

• Transparency and Accountability on the Board
• Refocusing on the REAL mission of the Republican Party
  • Growing the Party and Getting Republicans Elected
• Crafting a long-term plan for communications and growth
• Training members to be effective leaders in our community
• Engaging our members in working committees to advance our mission
• Building coalitions with other conservative groups
• Educating voters and mentoring citizens who want to run for office.

Ms. Casanova has a BA in Political Science and has over 30 years in the non-profit world in various roles, from legislative advocacy to membership development and communications. She is currently the Chair and Founder of Citizens First, a 501c4 dedicated to legislative advocacy, educating voters, and mentoring citizens who wish to run for office. She is also the National Secretary for the Republican National Hispanic Assembly and 2nd Vice Chair of the RNHA of Florida. She is also guest faculty for the Leadership Institute, a 501c3 founded by Morton Blackwell in 1979 to educate conservative leaders in the US and abroad.
