Nevada Law, Clearly Explained
Searchable online glossary translates statutes on DUI, battery, theft, drug possession, and casino markers into language non-lawyers can use

LAS VEGAS - PennZone -- Nevada's criminal statutes are public. Understanding them is another matter. Las Vegas attorney Thomas Boley has published the Nevada Criminal Law Glossary, a free online resource that explains 100 Nevada criminal laws in plain English, with a full Spanish version available through a single toggle. The guide is live now at https://www.thomasboley.com/nv-criminal-laws.

Each entry lists the Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) citation, the name of the offense, a short plain-language explanation, and how the offense is classified, from misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor through Category E to Category A felony. Readers can search by NRS number, browse alphabetically, or filter by severity.

The glossary covers charges Nevadans are most likely to encounter or read about, including:
  • Driving under the influence (NRS 484C.110)
  • Battery (NRS 200.481) and battery constituting domestic violence (NRS 200.485)
  • Assault (NRS 200.471)
  • Possession of a controlled substance (NRS 453.336)
  • Grand larceny (NRS 205.220)
  • Unpaid casino markers, which Nevada prosecutes under its bad-check statute (NRS 205.130)
"Most people meet Nevada criminal law for the first time on the worst day of their life, and the statute reads like it was written for someone else," said Thomas Boley, who has defended these charges in Las Vegas since 2008. "I wanted a family to be able to look up the exact law on the paperwork, in the language they speak at home, and walk into a lawyer's office with better questions."

Offering the full guide in Spanish is central to the project. Spanish is widely spoken in Las Vegas homes, and legal terminology is difficult enough in a first language. Offering the guide in both languages lets family members read the same information together.

The glossary is free and available online at any hour. It is intended as a starting point. It does not replace advice from an attorney who knows the facts of a specific case.
